January Book Per Month

It’s the first month in our 2019 attempt to expand our views beyond our favorite library shelves, and the first month is (Drumroll) Motivation and Self Help. I chose this primarily because I bought myself a Hygge book a few months ago, and I’ve been slacking on it. Really slacking. So in order to motivate myself, I’m using it as inspiration to get moving in the upcoming year. I’ll let you know how it goes, everyone!

One Book A Month

Now, I know what you’re thinking: Rachel, I read WAAYY more than one book a month (and so do I, obviously!), but this project is different. Instead of staying in our favorite sections of the library, content to read the same style of story over and over again, what we should be doing is expanding and growing our tastes. And so, this year, I am resolving to read at least one book in a different genre every month. Some I will be excited for, and others…I may dread. But they will be read, and processed, and reviewed and hopefully, I’ll grow or something! (PS the kids are doing this challenge too, they just don’t know it yet….) Don’t forget to comment on this post, OR tag us (here or on social media) when you complete a book! Use #bwmbookamonth to let us know your progress!

The Rory Gilmore Challenge: UPDATED

Earlier on, I posted the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge¬†and said I would update it as I go. WELL, true to form, I did not. I started a VERY time consuming job in July (which I have subsequently taken on a smaller position in,) and had time for NOTHING! But now, I’m back. New Year, New Challenges, New Reviews, New Crafts, New Recipes, New Books, Old Books, BOOKS!
Anyway, here’s the challenge

Easing Into Reading For FUN!

Guppy wasn’t always such an avid reader. She used to HATE reading! At one point, my own mama (Affectionately dubbed “Rachel’s Mom” by Guppy…as in “Rachel, Guess what I did at Rachel’s Mom’s house this weekend!”) told me “You need to get her to love reading as much as you did.” When I asked her how she fostered that love of reading in me she said “I don’t know. Just read to her, I guess.”
Long story short “Just read to her” did not work all by itself. But here are some ideas that did for your own reluctant readers.
